    Paul A. Lange

    Bar Admissions:
    New York, Connecticut & Massachusetts

Paul A. Lange is an attorney with a worldwide aviation law and insurance practice, maintaining offices in New York City and Stratford, CT. He is an FAA certified Airline Transport Pilot who flew for a regional air carrier in the northeastern United States prior to entering law school. During and after law school, Mr. Lange worked first as a law clerk and later as an attorney in the FAA Eastern Region Assistant Chief Counsel Office located in New York. While in those positions, Mr. Lange prosecuted numerous and varied FAA certificate holders, including emergency revocation and large civil penalty against prominent airlines and repair stations. The Eastern Region's international oversight responsibilities also provided him with extensive exposure to enforcement actions against non U.S. certificate holders.

Following 3 ½ years with the FAA, Mr. Lange joined two successive large and nationally prominent law firms and was based in New York City. As an associate in the aviation insurance and litigation departments of those firms, he handled a variety of tort and commercial matters primarily for the aviation industry. After practicing in those positions for approximately 4 years, Mr. Lange started his own firm in 1992. He and his associates continue to practice in the areas of aviation related tort, commercial and regulatory matters. Mr. Lange has been widely published on a variety of aviation related legal topics and has spoken to numerous audiences nationwide and internationally on these subjects as well. He serves on the Boards of the New England Air Museum and the CT Business Aviation Association, is active in a number of well known aviation organizations and remains current as a pilot.

    Alison L. McKay

    Bar Admissions:
New York, Connecticut, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, Western and Northern Districts of New York, and the District of Connecticut.

    Employment:

Prior to joining our firm in 2000, Alison worked for the New York State Attorney General's office where she coordinated a wide variety of consumer fraud investigations and assisted in the successful prosecution of a significant number of individuals and businesses engaged in consumer fraud. She also defended claims asserted against the New York State Department of Corrections.

Alison's practice focuses primarily on litigation. She represents clients in employment, aviation, commercial, product liability and general negligence matters before state and federal courts as well as before administrative agencies.

Alison defends employers from discrimination and whistleblower claims in the state and federal courts as well as before administrative agencies. She drafts, negotiates and has successfully litigated severance agreements, employment contracts, and confidentiality/non-compete agreements. Among her more noteworthy matters litigated was the successful defense in U.S. District Court of an airport fixed base operator from Americans with Disabilities Act and whistleblower claims. The Plaintiff argued discrimination based on weight and sex, and the critical question of law turned on a determination of whether federal airport grant funds to a municipality extended resulting federal employment protections to employees of an airport tenant. Alison's most recent employment law article was published in the January 2009 issue of the Rutgers' Online Employment Law Review, entitled "What manager's need to know about liability for their employee's Blackberry use". She has also delivered presentations to employers on employment law topics and been invited to speak at legal seminars.

In addition to Alison's employment practice, she has extensive experience defending multi-district and complex multi jurisdictional litigation arising from aviation accidents. In that context, Alison has obtained a number of favorable decisions in the area of federal preemption that have been discussed and cited by others in presentations at noteworthy national conferences. Her article entitled "Precluding Plaintiff's Use Of The NTSB Probable Cause Report At Deposition or Trial" was published in the March 2008 edition of DRI's Aerospace Committee Newsletter, Skywritings.

Alison's insurance defense work further includes representing property owners, general contractors and subcontractors in construction accident litigation arising under New York's Labor Laws. Her experience in this area has an emphasis on large, multi year projects where wrap up and OCIP insurance policies are common, such as the construction of airport terminals at JFK and La Guardia airports. She also presented "Discovery in Federal Practice" at the National Business Institute's 2003 seminar on "Handling a Personal Injury Case in Federal Court." Her commercial work includes litigating breaches of international investment banking contracts, charter management agreements and manufacturing agreement disputes.

Alison is a member of the Federal Bar Council, American Bar Association (ABA) and Connecticut Bar Association (CBA). She is an active participant in the ABA and CBA's Labor and Employment Law Committees. Alison is also an officer of, and actively serves on, the Board of Directors of the SUNY College at Oneonta Alumni Association, Inc.
